It seems that more and more people are travelling abroad with their pets. Depending on the country you are travelling to there may be several different requirements.

When your cat is first diagnosed as diabetic, your vet will discuss doing a blood glucose curve on him.  This can be done either in the clinic; or in your home. 

You will want to start by being sure you have the correct insulin syringes for your cat. There are 2 types of insulin syringes available – U-40 and U-100 syringes.

Hyperglycemia is an overabundance of glucose in a cat’s blood. This condition will almost always lead to Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) if left untreated for too long.

The nose, ears, eyes, and throat tell us a lot about your pet’s health. We check for discharge, infections, cancer signs, eye stability, and thyroid or respiratory issues.

Every day, we see patients with a history of vomiting or diarrhea. Some are diagnosed with Parvovirus, a preventable disease through vaccination.

Your veterinarian may recommend additional diagnostic testing depending on how your cat has been responding to the insulin injections.

Pet obesity is something we see in the clinic, though some pets may be overweight for a medical reason, the usual culprit is in fact over-eating.

When your pet comes in for an exam, our ACAs check the heart, take temperature, heart rate & respiratory rate, providing valuable data before the doctors arrive.
